SWIMMING
After a refreshing dip in Rockwell Lake, climb upon our floating dock, relax in the sun and feel your tensions ease.
FISHING
Fishing in Michigan is serious fun! Walleye, Catfish, Bluegill, and Rainbow Trout are among many of the fish to be found in Rockwell Lake. Bring your valid Michigan fishing license, your earthworms, and put your fishing skills to the test. (No perch may be taken.) All anglers practice catch-and-release unless fish are being kept for consumption. If you would like your catch to become your dinner, the staff will clean, filet and cook your fish.
FLY FISHING LESSONS (Beginner)
Did you ever see the movie, A River Runs Through It, and wondered if you would have that much fun fly fishing? We can make it happen for you. We have a wonderful guide who will provide basic instructions on the art of fly-fishing.
NATURE WALKS
Get your blood pumping and your energy level up. Walk or hike the marked trails around the lake and property. Pristine forests, fields, bogs, swamps and a trout stream surround the Lodge.
SELF-GUIDED TOUR OF G. H. GORDON BIOLOGICAL STATION (685 Acres)
Enjoy the outdoors as you hike the marked trails. Learn about the trees and plants as you go from marker to marker.
BIRD WATCHING
Bring your binoculars or borrow ours to find our resident pair of American Bald Eagles. Find the nest where the Common Loons reside or look for the Great Blue Heron. Depending on the season, you may find Ruffled Grouse, Baltimore Orioles or Northern White-throated Sparrows.
CAMPING IN PLYM VILLAGE
Stay in one of our four rustic cabins in Plym Village. A total of 60 bunk beds are available to campers. For your convenience and comfort, each cabin provides a kitchenette, microwave, mini-refrigerator, 12-cup coffee maker, dining room table & 6 chairs, service for 12, restroom with showers, telephone and wireless internet.
WATERCRAFT
Enjoy your time on scenic Rockwell Lake with any of our boats:
- 5 fishing boats with trolling motors
- 2 canoes
- 2 pedal boats
- 2 kayaks
As our guest, we are happy to make this equipment available to you. Please see the General Managers for information.
THE LODGE GREAT ROOM
If quiet time and a chair by the fire to read a good book is what you prefer, we have the perfect spot: the Lodge Great Room. Enjoy board games on the Game Table including Monopoly, Scrabble, Dominos or Playing Cards. Sit back and watch TV on the flat screen while lounging in the plush, leather seating or read Audubon Society Field Guides on trees, birds, animals, stars, and insects.
PICNIC
How about a priceless view while picnicking with that special someone? Families enjoy picnics, especially with favorite summer foods and drinks at hand. Check with our General Managers for the perfect location and choose from the wonderful cuisine our kitchen has to offer. Make it a box lunch to go and enjoy your meal in the open air.
FIRE PITS AND S’MORES
It’s time for stories and tall tales with your friends around the Fire pit. Time to roast marshmallows, eat cookies and chocolate, get cozy by the fire; watch the stars come out. So grab your chair and kick back for a good time.
HORSESHOES
Feeling lucky? Everything old is new again! Teach your kids or challenge a friend to this fun game.
CROQUET
Mallets, balls, wickets and stakes! We’re talking recreational pastime on an easy summer afternoon.
BASKETBALL
Who could have known that Dr. James Nasemith’s invention would eventually produce greats like Michael Jordon, Kareem Abdul Jabar, Magic Johnson, and LeBron James? Perhaps a new legend will be born at The Rockwell Lake Lodge!
RELAX
Lounging in one of our custom-built Adirondack chairs with a cool drink nearby may be “just what the doctor ordered.”
STAY FIT
If you prefer an indoor workout regimen, we have some brand new, heavy-duty treadmills in the lower level of the Lodge, just below the Great Room. Use your guest room key for entry. Towels are provided. While there, catch up on the news or watch your favorite program on our large, flat-screened TV.
POPCORN & MOVIES
Enjoy a relaxing night in your guest suite, curled up watching a favorite movie, with your fireplace on and popcorn popping in your own microwave. Use your mini-refrigerator to chill your best beverage.
WIRELESS INTERNET
From your room or almost anywhere around the Lodge and Plym Village, you may surf the web.
BUSINESS SERVICES
If you have to take your work with you, we have a guest computer available with wireless Internet access. We also have a fax machine, copier and printer. These are located in the lobby of the Lodge.
SNACK TIME
Are you in between meals and can’t wait until scheduled mealtime? Check out our Vending Area on the way to your guest suite.
VOLLEYBALL
Up for a game with the family and friends? Check out the equipment with the General Managers.
FRISBEE
Who doesn’t like to throw a Frisbee? It’s so simple and so much fun. No experience needed.
AFTERNOON COOKIES
Not just for kids! Because you chose to lodge with us and we like to pamper our guests, enjoy afternoon cookies with tea or coffee, served in the Lodge Great Room.
CAMPFIRES
Remember sitting around a crackling fire in the cool evenings, eating hot dogs, reminiscing about good times, or even singing favorite songs with family and friends? You can do it again when you stay with us. We provide the location and the firewood. The rest is up to you. And, if you sing off key, we promise not to notice.
BIKING
If you wish to bring your own bike, we recommend mountain-type bikes due to the terrain.
RUNNING
For the avid runner, there is a great trail that surrounds Rockwell Lake. The distance is approximately one mile.
PAINTING
Winston Churchill had the right idea taking his paints and easel wherever he traveled. Bring your own easel to capture some of the best scenic views Michigan has to offer year ‘round.
‘KODACHROME”
Let a photograph be your souvenir:
They give us those nice bright colors; they give us the greens of summers.
Makes you think all the world’s a sunny day, Oh yeah.
I got a Nikon camera; I love to take a photograph,
So Mama, don’t take my Kodachrome away.
~Paul Simon
STARGAZING
It’s not just for lovers! Check out a pair of binoculars and test your knowledge of the night sky. Practice your navigational skills by adding a compass. Or, just sit back, relax, and “dream a little dream of thee…”
BOCCE BALL
This ancient game, whose modern adaptation most closely resembles bowling, requires skill, strategy and just a little luck.
CROSS COUNTRY SKIING
When the deep, white powder arrives at our door, bring your cross-country skis to sail over our groomed trails. (Bring your own equipment.)
SNOW-SHOEING
Like Hansel and Gretel, let your snowshoe tracks be your path back to the warm fire of the Lodge Great Room after an invigorating trek through the snow-covered woods. (Bring your own equipment.)
